Since most of the drag races we're used to seeing involve either hot hatchbacks, supercars and even hypercars, this BMW 4-Series "challenge" feels pretty fresh.
Not only are both of these models regular, day-to-day cars, but it's also interesting to see which four-cylinder turbocharged BMW power unit comes out on top.
Without saying which one won, we will acknowledge that as a slight underdog, the 428i performed better than expected, although not in a surprising fashion. We tested the 428i Cabrio back in 2015 and found that its 245 PS, 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) turbocharged four-pot was punchy.
Back then, we sampled the xDrive version, which could hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds. Going with a rear-wheel drive model such as this one will shave 0.1 seconds off that time.
