Porsche is hard at work developing the next 911 but that doesn't mean the current model is going away anytime soon. In fact, the company could be preparing at least one more special edition of the aging sports car.
According to Car Magazine, Porsche might use the Frankfurt Motor Show to introduce a new 911 Speedster. Little is known about the model but the company typically introduces new Speedster variants towards the end of each lifecycle.
The last 911 Speedster arrived in 2010 and it featured a unique front fascia, a shorter windscreen, and wider rear fenders. However, the biggest change was the addition of a distinctive rear roof cover which featured a double bubble design.
Power was provided by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine that was sourced from the Carrera GTS. It produced 408 PS (300 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque which enabled the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.6 seconds.
If traditional holds true, the new 911 Speedster could be powered by the GTS' twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine which develops 450 PS (331 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the coupe to rocket from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in as little as 3.7 seconds.
