Presidents and other heads of state are rarely car people but it appears Belarus' president is a huge fan of the automotive industry and electric vehicles in particular.
In a slightly bizarre report from the Belarus News, President Alexander Lukashenko gives a pretty legit review of the Tesla Model S while also knocking some other electric vehicles.
Following a recent test drive, Lukashenko remarked Tesla has "created an excellent car" that "accelerates so fast as to leave all the German combustion engine cars we've tested way behind." The president went on to say the Model S has great traction and takes off like a rocket.
Lukashenko says this wasn't his first experience with electric vehicles and noted "automobiles have been my hobby for a long time." He politely added the Mitsubishi i-MiEV is "possibly a bit worse" than the Model S and then congratulated BMW i for creating good, maneuverable, and fast cars.
The test drive was part of a larger event focused on the automotive industry and Lukashenko urged his country's engineers to strive to meet Tesla's level of excellence. As the president noted, “In the near future, nobody will want to buy combustion engine vehicles like hot cakes the way it was in the past. Compare this car to what we have created and aspire for these standards.”
