Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster Pops Its Top In Frankfurt

For the time being, Lamborghini only makes two models – but it makes the most of them, rolling out updates and new variants on a constant basis. At the Frankfurt Motor Show this week, it was the Aventador S Roadster.

Released to the world less than a week ago, the Aventador S Roadster follows along the lines of the Aventador S coupe... but with a removable roof – or roof panels, we should say.

That means a 6.5-liter V12 – still naturally aspirated as always – kicking out a mind-boggling 730 horsepower and 509 lb-ft of torque. The pair of roof panels weigh less than 13 pounds to make them easy to remove and replace, so the bulk of the 110 pounds of added weight over the fixed-roof version comes from the reinforcements added – albeit not many of them, mind you, as the car is made mostly of ultra-rigid carbon fiber as it is.

The sum total is a 0-62 time of three seconds flat and a top speed quoted at 217 miles per hour, which we have every reason to believe would be a life-changing experience without the roof in place. Four-wheel steering helps keep it under control, because while the Aventador may be low to the ground, no twelve-cylinder, mid-engined supercar is short in length: it's no wonder then that both Lamborghini and Ferrari have recently added rear-wheel steering systems to theirs. (You can't get the Ferrari 812 Superfast as a roadster, though.)

Like what you see? Try not to like it too much, because it'll cost you an eye-watering $460,247. Deliveries commence in February 2018, and the wait list is surely growing by the day.
