Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular and Ford has announced plans to offer an assortment of new zero-emission vehicles.
In an interview with Automotive News, Ford revealed the company has setup a group called "Team Edison" which is named after inventor Thomas Edison. The team will reportedly be focused exclusively on electric vehicles and be separated from other electrification efforts that focus on hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Ford's Vice President of Autonomous Vehicles and Electrification told the publication, "We see an inflection point in the major markets toward battery electric vehicles." Sherif Marakby went on to say "We feel it's important to have a cross-functional team all the way from defining the strategy plans and implementation to advanced marketing."
The company has already announced plans to launch an electric crossover with approximately 300 miles (482.8 km) of range but Marakby confirmed additional EVs on are on the horizon. There's no word on how many we can expect or when they will arrive but more details could be announced tomorrow as part of Ford CEO Jim Hackett's strategic update to investors.
Regardless of what happens tomorrow, Marakby said the company is open to partnerships but Team Edison's real focus is to "really grow the BEV offerings from Ford."
