BAC Mono, Caterham 620S, Ariel Nomad And Atom Face Off

The BAC Mono, Ariel Atom 3.5, Ariel Nomad and Caterham 620S are four of the most capable sports cars on the market and absolutely perfect for thrilling track day driving.

Around a circuit, these four (maybe not the Nomad…) can keep pace with multi-million dollar hypercars but in a straight line, which of the four is the quickest? Top Gear has the answer for you.

In ideal conditions, the Mono and Atom 3.5 can both hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 3 seconds and the Nomad and 620S are only a few tenths behind. Fittingly, the race is therefore quite close and while we won’t ruin the result for you, it’s worth looking at the stats of the competitors.

Power for the Nomad comes from a Honda-sourced supercharged four-cylinder with 290 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the 620S has a 306 hp, 219 lb-ft supercharged four while the Mono used has its original 2.3-liter Cosworth with 280 hp. Delivering 310 hp and 228 lb-ft, the Atom 3.5’s supercharged four-pot is the most powerful, but does that make it quicker? Scroll to watch the video and find out.
