New information came to light about the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler after a secret meeting between FCA and select Jeep dealers. JLWrangler Forums got some of the meeting’s details, including powertrain options, via an anonymous source.
The new Jeep Wrangler is expected to make its public debut at the upcoming LA Auto Show in November, with the first cars to arrive in US dealerships this December.
The new generation of the Wrangler will reportedly be available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter petrol paired to an automatic transmission as standard. Jeep will also offer an updated version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which will be offered with both a manual and an automatic transmission. A diesel engine, probably FCA’s 3.0-liter V6, will join the range from late 2019.
According to the report, other features of the new-gen Wrangler include a “power sliding hardtop”, slated for late MY2018 availability, a redesigned transfer case handle, a start-stop system on 3.6-liter models, 33-inch tires for Rubicon models and a longer wheelbase for the four-door models.
An unconfirmed list of exterior colors has also made its appearance and includes white, black, Granite Crystal, Billet Silver, Blue, Orange, Red and Baja Yellow. Finally, there is a note saying that most current-gen Wrangler aftermarket parts will fit the new model as well.
Stay tuned for more details to emerge in the coming weeks as the official debut of the new Jeep Wrangler approaches.
