The Renault-Nissan Alliance has managed to sell more units combined than the Volkswagen Group in the first six months of the year.
According to the numbers posted, sales rose to 5,268,079 million units from the Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Dacia, and other brands in the alliance, while the German automotive giant delivered a total of 5,115,900 vehicles in the same period.
The Alliance witnessed increased sales of Renault cars, such as the Clio, Megane, Captur, Sandero, and Duster, as well as Nissan-badged models, including the X-Trail/Rogue, Sentra/Sylphy, Qashqai, and Altima/Teana. Mitsubishi delivered close to 495,000 vehicles from January to June, and reported solid demand for the Outlander globally, and Pajero Sport in the ASEAN region.
Sales of electric vehicles rose significantly as well, to 481,151 units, driven by the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe, and Mitsubishi i-Miev, and so have those of the plug-in hybrid versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander.
The Nissan brand delivered 2,894,488 cars and trucks worldwide, a 5.6 percent increase. The company's best markets were the United States, China, and Japan, in this order, followed by Mexico, UK, Canada, Russia, France, Italy, and Germany.
In the meantime, the Renault brand sold 1,879,288 new vehicles in the first six months of the year, up 10.4 percent. France, Russia, and Italy were the automaker's best markets, which were followed by Germany, Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Iran, UK, and Argentina.
"The Alliance has delivered record sales during the first semester of 2017 reaching 5,268,079 vehicles sold", said Renault-Nissan Alliance's head honcho, Carlos Ghosn. "We will continue to leverage our significant economies of scale and global market presence to deliver valuable synergies for our member companies this year, while maintaining a strong technology lineup and offering customers breakthrough electric models."
