The Tesla Model 3 recently went into production and the company is starting to ramp up its factory to meet the demand of hundreds of thousands of consumers.
The influx of new customers is expected to put a strain on Tesla's service centers as they'll soon have to deal with countless new owners and their vehicles.
Thankfully, Reuters is reporting the company is being proactive as an unnamed senior executive confirmed the automaker will add an additional 100 service centers to its current total of more than 150. Tesla will also add 350 service vans to its fleet to help customers who have problems on the road.
Unsurprisingly, the company will need to hire a number of new employees to drive the vans and work in the new service centers. Tesla will hire around 1,400 service technicians this year and the company plans to continue expanding its service capacity at a similar rate over the next few years.
The new service centers should help to improve the situation but that isn't the only tactic the company is employing. As the Tesla executive explained, the Model 3 has been specifically designed for easy production which helps to reduce service requirements.
Tesla will have plenty of time to expand its service network before being hit by a massive wave of Model 3 owners. The company already has more than 373,000 reservations for the car but production isn't expected to hit 20,000 units per month until December. This likely means it will be awhile before all 373,000 cars are on the road.
