You Probably Won’t Use The Brakes Much With The New Nissan Leaf

While we still have to wait until September 6 for the new Nissan Leaf to be fully revealed, the company continues to release small details about its new electric model.

This time we learn that the new Leaf will come with a new “revolutionary” technology called e-Pedal. Flipping a switch will turn the accelerator into an e-Pedal, allowing drivers to accelerate, decelerate and bring the car to stop using just their right foot.

Nissan says that the e-Pedal technology is the first one-pedal operation system and that drivers can cover 90 percent of their driving needs with it. The company also says that thanks to this new technology, driving the new Leaf becomes “simpler and more exciting”, although we will remain sceptical about that last part.

The new system is just the latest member of the Leaf’s wide range of advanced technologies. So far we know that the new mainstream battery-powered vehicle will come with Nissan’s ProPilot semi-autonomous system that not only allows it to drive itself under certain conditions but also enables it to park itself perfectly. Nissan even claims that once it hits the market, the new Leaf will be the market’s most advanced autonomous model.

The latest reports suggest that the new Nissan Leaf will be available with two battery options: an entry-level 40kWh and a bigger 60kWh. The latter version will be able to travel 340 miles (547km) on a single charge.

Stay tuned for more information on the new Nissan Leaf in the coming weeks as the teasing campaign is surely going to keep us busy until the big reveal.
