For many years, the Volkswagen Golf GTI has been the clever choice in the segment, thanks to its competitive pricing, versatility, comfort, and power.
However, nowadays, having a large budget for a hot hatch means that you can skip the most favored one and go straight for a Mercedes-AMG A45, or Audi RS3 Sportback, but should you?
CarBuyer's James Batchelor believes that for an everyday user, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is the clever choice. It looks good, especially as a facelifted model, which brings new lights, bumpers, infotainment system, and a power boost, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to buy, as it will set you back for at least €29,975 ($35,809) in Germany, and £28,320 ($38,349) in the UK.
And going for the entry-level version, which comes as a 3-door, and with a 6-speed manual gearbox, shouldn’t make you regret your choice either, as this is still very decently equipped, and it packs quite a punch, at 230PS (226hp) as standard, or 245PS (241hp) in the Performance edition. On top of that, the stick shift is said to be sublime, so there's really nothing wrong with the latest Golf GTI, is it?
