Want a Koenigsegg Regera? Don't we all. But you can't have one, even if you have the seven-figure asking price... because they're all sold out.
The Swedish automaker announced late yesterday that it has pre-sold the production slots for each of the 80 examples of the Regera it will make. After that, they'll be gone – though we won't be surprised to see some pop up on the open market, albeit suitably marked up.
The Regera is Koenigsegg's first hybrid model, following more closely along the lines of the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, and LaFerrari than the Toyota Prius or Chevy Volt – and with more power than any of them. The vehicle combines the manufacturer's 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a trio of electric motors and no transmission to speak of to deliver a combined 1,500 horsepower for a 0-62 time quoted at 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 255 miles per hour.
Each example carries a sticker price of about $1.9 million, so by selling all 80, Koenigsegg has generated over $1.5 billion in business. Another novelty of the Regera's introduction, though, is that it's the first model that the factory in Angelholm will produce in parallel to another – that being the Agera RS, employing the same internal-combustion engine as the Regera, sans the electric motors, to produce 1,160 hp, hit 62 in 2.8 seconds, and top out at 275 mph.
Only 25 examples of the RS will be made before the company retires the Agera line with the Final edition presented in Geneva this past March. It'll take a while after that for Koenigsegg to complete production of those 80 Regeras, by which time we can look forward to seeing what the Swedish automaker will cook up next.
