While it is hard to debate that Tesla is changing the face of the automotive industry, the electric automaker has faced its fair share of controversy and criticism over the years, particularly due to poor quality control procedures and a number of issues that have plagued its vehicles.
Most recently, the owner of a Model X 90D in the U.S. encountered a particularly dangerous moment ,as the driver's side falcon door opened at 65 mph while a 6-year-old was sitting next to it.
Taking to Reddit, the owner posted a comprehensive letter to Tesla that describes all the problems that have hit the Model X since it was delivered on January 5, 2017 after being reserved on September 21, 2015. In the days following the vehicle's delivery, the owner says it required a software update, had low windshield wiper fluid, then had a cracked wiper fluid container and had an incorrectly installed falcon door seal.
In the following months, the electric SUV had persistent problems with the driver's side falcon door and on two occasions was locked shut and couldn't be opened. These issues all culminated on June 2 when, while driving on the freeway, the falcon door started to lift open, forcing him to quickly grab on to prevent the door from opening fully.
On the back of all these issues, the owner is asking for a full refund as the door opening incident means it falls under the California Lemon Law.
The owner has yet to say if the problem has been resolved and if Tesla will provide a full refund, but has stated that the head of sales and service at Tesla, Jon McNeill, is eager to resolve the problems.
