American University's Kogod School of Business has released its annual Made in America Auto Index.
Designed to determine which vehicles are the most American, the study factors in seven different criteria including where the company is headquartered, where the vehicle is assembled, and where the engine and transmission are built.
According to the study, the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia are the most American vehicles on the market. They were closely followed by the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Corvette with the optional automatic transmission.
Three variants of the Jeep Wrangler came in fourth, while fifth place was a tie between the Jeep Wrangler Sport and the Ford Expedition.
Unsurprisingly, the highest ranked vehicles in the study were "made by U.S. based manufacturers using American engines and transmissions, and a with a high American Automotive Labeling Act (AALA) percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts."
The Kogod School of Business points out the auto industry employed approximately 2.5 million people last year and had a significant impact on the economy. Furthermore, 65 percent of the 17.5 million vehicles sold in the United States last year were produced domestically.
