BMW M2 CS Said To Get 402HP And Do 0-62 MPH In 4.2 Sec

BMW remains ultra-secretive about the faster, more focused CS version of the M2 Coupe, but thankfully some new information have surfaced.

British Car magazine reports that the 2018 M2 CS will offer as much as 402hp (407PS) and 370lb-ft (501Nm) of peak torque, which is 37hp and 27lb-ft more than the ‘normal’ M2.

The report goes on saying that the newfound power will come from a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six engine instead of the M2’s single-turbo N55 unit, but it doesn’t specify which engine will that be; previous rumors have suggested that BMW will use a detuned version of the S55 unit found in the M3/M4 models, and the new info seems to reinforce those reports.

Moreover, if you look closely at previously spotted prototypes, you’ll notice that the dual-clutch transmission’s cooler return line is no longer running behind the kidney grille. Instead the cooler line appears to run behind the lower grille of the front bumper, just like on the M3/M4.

Sources indicate that the upcoming BMW M2 CS will be able to hit 62mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.2 seconds, bringing it dangerously close to its bigger siblings in terms of performance. The chassis is expected to be beefed up, with the Bavarians adding a different suspension and bigger brakes while shaving some weight. The hardcore M2 variant is said to be lighter by about 25kg thanks to a new aluminum roof, carbon panels, thinner glass, as well as a set of lighter and deeper bucket seats.

BMW is expected to launch the new M2 CS in the second half of 2018, and its official debut will allegedly be made at the Geneva Motor Show.
