Tesla made a bit of a splash by announcing the first deliveries of the Model 3 will occur on July 28th but that wasn't the only news the company had in store.
According to Electrek, Tesla has made a series of upgrades to the Model S and the Model X. Details are limited but a spokesperson confirmed the changes involve both software and hardware modifications. As a result, the performance boosts will only be available on new models.
Starting with the Model S, the entry-level 75 variant sees a huge boost in performance as its 0-60 mph time drops from 5.5 seconds to 4.3 seconds. The Model S 75D also sees a sizable improvement as the same task takes 4.2 seconds instead of the previous 5.2 seconds. Last but not least, the Model S 100D can now run from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds which means the sedan is 0.1 seconds faster than its predecessor.
Moving onto the Model X, drivers can expect the 75D variant to rocket from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds which is a major improvement from the previous time of six seconds flat. Likewise, the Model X 100D is 0.5 seconds faster than its predecessor as the dash from 0-60 mph takes 4.7 seconds.
Besides the improved performance, the Model X gains a new 7-seat option which costs an additional $3,000.
