Beautiful things can happen when American muscle is married to Italian design. Just look at the 1953 Chrysler Ghia Special we brought you recently, or this stunning 1966 Iso Grifo.
Powered by a Corvette V8 and designed by Bertone, the Grifo remains a shining example of its era – a muscle car in an Armani suit. With only 332 made, it remains highly sought-after among collectors. But even in such rare company, the example you see here stands out.
Said to have been personally ordered by Nuccio Bertone himself, this Grifo featured prominently at the 53rd Paris Auto Show in 1966, tastefully resplendent in Grigio Astrale (read: dark grey) with a Pelle Avana (deep tan) leather and wood-trimmed interior. It spent much of its life in Italy and the Netherlands, and was imported to the United States a few years ago. It has since undergone a comprehensive restoration and kept in a climate-controlled environment, but looks like it's just begging to be driven.
Now it's heading for the auction block at the RM Sotheby's sale in Monterey next month, where one fortunate buyer will hopefully fall in love with it even more deeply than we have from admiring it in the photos below, taken by Brian Rozar for RM Sotheby's.
