DeLorean’s Story Has A Little Bit Of Everything: Ambition, Time Travel And Cocaine

We all know DeLorean Motor Company; it’s those crazy guys who decided to build a futuristic sportscar with the engine at the rear, unpainted stainless steel body panels and of course gullwing doors.

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and engineered by Colin Chapman, the DeLorean DMC-12 failed to meet the expectations created by its royal credentials as the Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 engine was producing just 130hp and therefore offered inferior performance to rivals of the era.

Sadly, by the time the DMC-12 was immortalized as the Time Machine, becoming a huge pop culture icon of the eighties, the company was already gone.

John DeLorean was a risk taker and a golden boy of the US automotive industry at his prime but a series of mistakes along with accusations of drug trafficking put the final nail in the coffin of DMC before he got to see his company thrive.

Learn more about the DeLorean story in Donut Media’s video after the jump.
