Quirky-Looking Suzuki Ignis Gets Another Seal Of Approval

The Ignis has proven to be one of those cars you either love or hate, and a big part of it comes from the way it looks. Whether you like it or not, you got to admit that it’s refreshing to see a model trying to do things differently, especially when it comes from a small car maker like Suzuki.

Based on the company’s latest lightweight platform, the new Suzuki Ignis is also one of the lightest cars available right now, tipping the scales from just 810kg (1785lbs).

That means that the 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine has less weight to move around, and with 89hp on tap, it can make the Ignis a very enjoyable companion during city driving. More expensive models even get a mild hybrid system, with the electric motor assisting the engine from low revs and reducing the fuel consumption.

The 180mm ground clearance and optional AWD system also turn the Ignis into something more than just another city car. And yes, the interior feels cheap with all those hard plastics, but at least comes well equipped.

The Suzuki Ignis is not perfect by any means, but compared to some of its rivals, it clearly offers a more charming character into a segment of bland models. Matt Watson of CarWow delivers his verdict in the video that follows.
