New Kia Niro Plugs Into The UK Market, Prices Start At £27,995

Following its premiere in Geneva earlier this year, the new Kia Niro PHEV is now available to order in the United Kingdom.

It's based on the mid-range grade '3', and it can be had from £27,995 (equal to $36,272), after the Government plug-in car grant of £2,500 ($3,239).

Power comes from a 1.6-liter GDI direct-injected petrol engine and an electric motor, which work together to develop a total output of 141PS (139hp) and 265Nm (195lb-ft) of torque. It also has an 8.9kWh lithium-polymer battery pack with a higher capacity than the one used on the Niro Hybrid, which allows for a zero-emission driving range of up to 36 miles (60km).

Driving the front wheels is a six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, with a 'Manual Sports' mode that allows drivers to select gears manually. The 0 to 60mph (96km/h) acceleration takes 10.4sec, and top speed stands at 107mph (172km/h).

Slotting between the Cee'd hatch and Sportage SUV in size at 4,355mm (171.45in) long, 1,805mm (71.06in) wide and 1,535mm (60.43) tall, the new Kia Niro PHEV has room for five, and comes with numerous standard features. These include the Kia Connected Services with TomTom, 8.0-inch touchscreen, 4.2-inch color TFT supervision cluster, wireless phone charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, reversing camera, dual-zone air-con, and rear privacy glass.

It also gets LED DRLs and taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels with a special pattern, front and rear parking sensors, roof rails, electrically adjustable folding side mirrors with LED indicators, and the Rich Espresso exterior color. Other shades, such as the Clear White, Graphite, Midnight Black, White Pearl, and the exclusive Gravity Blue, are available as options.

The Kia Niro PHEV also benefits from Autonomous Emergency Braking with Smart Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Hill-Start Assist Control, and Speed Limiter.
