Scoop: Production All-Electric Audi E-Tron Quattro Hits The Road

If you needed further proof of Audi working on a production version of the all-electric E-Tron SUV, now you have it.

Audi’s first all-electric model has been spotted testing on public roads for the first time and unsurprisingly it looks a lot like the 2015 concept.

Audi says that the e-tron and the rumored Q6 will be two different models, with the former being based on a new, bespoke for EVs architecture that Porsche is also going to use for the production version of the Mission E.

We still don’t know the specifics of the electric powertrain the production E-Tron is going to use but we do know that the concept used three electric motors (one at the front and two at the rear) for a total output of 429hp and over 590lb-ft (800Nm) of torque. There was also an “overboost” function that pushed power up to 496hp for short periods of time.

The concept also used a 95kWh battery pack that allowed it to travel over 310 miles (500km) on a single charge, which sounds more than adequate to most of us.

Audi is planning to introduce the all-electric E-Tron to the market in 2018, so expect more information in the coming months.
