After weeks of ups and downs, the crowdfunded campaign to make the 2017 Dodge Viper ACR the fastest production car around the Nurburgring has come to an end. The quickest lap achieved was a 7 min 1.3 sec, roughly nine seconds short of the Huracan Performante’s best time.
In late July, the U.S. team that was sponsored by Kumho and Viper Exchange, set a 7:03.45 with Dominik Farnbacher behind the wheel. Despite that time being absolutely blistering, especially given the price of the Viper ACR, the Viper enthusiasts weren’t satisfied.
To put that time into perspective, it is just 4 seconds shy of the million-dollar Porsche 918 Spyder and within sight of the 6:45.9 of the NIO EP9 and the McLaren P1 LM’s record-breaking 6:43.2. It is also 11 seconds faster than the previous-generation Viper ACR.
A record wasn’t set but Viper enthusiasts should be proud.
