Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne recently announced plans to introduce the redesigned Ram 1500 at the North American International Auto Show and CarScoops reader Brett Borgard has caught the model undergoing testing.
Dressed in full camouflage, the truck appears to be equipped with an even larger grille. Additional styling details are hard to make out but it looks like the model has a taller and wider hood as well as new door mirrors.
The truck was caught testing alongside a facelifted Ram 3500. Styling changes are hard to discern but the model is expected to receive a new front fascia that echoes the 1500.
Ram hasn't said much about the 1500 but previous reports have suggested it will be equipped with a new air intake and slimmer headlights. We can also expect larger cabs and a traditional steel bed. FCA has previously patented a split tailgate and rumors have suggested it may make an appearance on the redesigned pickup.
The updated styling will continue in the cabin as the truck is slated to adopt a new center stack with a UConnect infotainment system that is flanked by vertical air vents. Drivers will also find a rotary gear selector, new switchgear, and higher quality materials.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but reports have suggested the model will be offered with an upgraded 3.6-liter V6 and a 5.7-liter V8. We can also expect to see the company's 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel following its approval by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board.
