The 2018 Ssangyong Rexton, the company’s new flagship, has arrived in the UK market, aiming to offer impressive value in a very crowded segment.
The new Rexton is a basically a traditional body-on-frame big SUV, only now it comes with modern styling that doesn’t try to musk its rugged identity. The interior looks also impressive, with good quality and features like quilted nappa leather on the high-end trim and a high-def 9.2-inch infotainment system.
There’s only one engine to choose from in the UK, and that would be the 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 181PS (179hp) and 420Nm (310lb-ft) of torque. You can go for either the standard six-speed manual or the optional, and Mercedes-sourced, seven-speed automatic transmission. All models come with a selectable four-wheel drive system that also features a low range mode. Towing capacity is an impressive 3.5 tonnes.
Entry-level EX models start from just £27,500 OTR and offer 17-inch alloy wheels, manual air conditioning, an 8-inch infotainment system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers, cruise control, and electronic safety features including forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking system, lane departure warning, high beam assistance, and traffic sign recognition.
Move up to the ELX trim level and you get seven seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual zone and rear air conditioning, a Supervision instrument cluster, Tom Tom navigation with the bigger 9.2-inch screen, speed sensitive power-assisted steering, heated steering wheel, rear privacy glass, nappa leather upholstery, heated and powered front seats, Smart key, electro-chromic driver’s mirror, and nine airbags for the price of £32,000.
The Rexton Ultimate is the range-topper, priced at £37,500, adding things like the seven-speed automatic transmission, 20-inch alloys, HID headlights, LED fog lights, interior mood lighting, stainless steel door finishes, 3D-around view monitoring, blind-spot detection, and rear-cross traffic alert, quilted nappa leather, heated and ventilated memory power seats, and ‘smart’ electronic tailgate.
If that sounds like good value to you, learn that Ssangyong is also offering a five-year, limitless mileage warranty with each of their models.
