Scooped Mercedes G-Class Prototype Sounds Mean - Could It Be The New AMG?

Mercedes-Benz have been testing the successor of the current G-Wagon ever since last year, and despite the obvious similarities, it will be entirely new.

In fact, the only thing shared with its predecessor will be a plastic lip on the C-pillar, according to recent sources, as the new off-roader will be longer and wider and offer a roomier cabin.

While we already know that it will initially hit the market with a range of gasoline and diesel engines, in lesser models, AMG versions will eventually sit at the top of the range, and we might just be looking at such a vehicle in this recent spy video.

On the outside, there isn’t really anything to give it away, as the vinyl stickers cover most of its body, but on the move we can hear a deep growl that might, or might not, mean that the prototype is powered by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that will be used by the AMG version. In its most extreme form, the new AMG-badged G-Class is expected to produce as much as 612PS (603hp) and 850Nm (627lb-ft) of torque, which is identical to the latest AMG E63 S.

Mercedes is expected to pull the cover off the new generation G-Class this fall during the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
