See this Land Rover? Looks like it must be one of the first made, right? Only it's not. In fact it's one of the last, and it's going up for sale... with some celebrity provenance to boot.
The vehicle in question is a 2015 Land Rover Defender 90 Heritage Edition – one of the last Defenders made before production ceased in preparation for an all-new model.
Land Rover made just 400 of these, with this particular example having been purchased new by the famous British actor Rowan Atkinson, of Mr. Bean, Blackadder, and Johnny English fame. A noted car buff, Atkinson received delivery of the classically styled Landie fresh from the factory on November 28, 2015, and has kept it ever since. But now he's putting it up for sale, consigning it to Silverstone Auctions for its upcoming event at the end of July.
The special-edition Defender features Grasmere Green paintjob with which roof, throwback grille, heavy-duty wheels, aluminum trim, and special badges throughout. JLR charged £27,800 for these when they were new, but Silverstone Auctions expects this one to fetch between £38,000 and £45,000 – owing no doubt to its rarity and celebrity ownership.
Mind you, for that price, you could get a new Discovery, but that's another beast entirely... and one that's not likely to retain its value as well as this one.
