Want to know who's the fastest driver ever to climb the hill at Goodwood? That'd be Nick Heidfeld. And now he's set to return in pursuit of another record.
The former F1 driver took a McLaren MP4/13 up Lord March's famous front lawn back in 1999 in just 41.6 seconds, and despite the efforts of many since, the record still stands to this day.
This year he'll be back at the event in another single-seater formula racer, but this time it's all electric. And not just any old EV, either: he'll be driving the Mahindra M4Electro – the chassis he'll be driving in next year's Formula E championship, marking its debut at Goodwood before it appears anywhere else.
The big question is just how fast it'll run the 1.16-mile course. He may not break his own 41.6-second record, but he may very well set a new electric record. The fastest electric vehicle ever to make the climb was Drayson's electric Lola prototype, which made the run in 47.34 seconds in 2013. The Porsche 918 Spyder stands as the quickest electrified road car at 66.09.
