With 690 hp on tap, the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful vehicle to wear the famed 911 badge. However, compared to this 993-gen hillclimber, it is quite tame.
Like many of its hillclimb rivals, this racer started out life as an already extremely potent sports car, but has since been heavily upgraded to make it faster and more extreme than ever before. Complete with a Vodafone racing livery, it is the definition of a true rear-wheel drive animal.
In Porsche history, the 993 GT2 is remembered as one of the greats. Not only was it the last air-cooled 911, but just 57 examples were built, each equipped with a 3.6-liter flat-six from the Turbo delivering 430 hp to the rear wheels. We’re not sure what upgrades this race-tuned GT2 has undergone, but to reach modern supercar levels of performance, we bet some serious tinkering has been done.
Alongside the mechanical modifications, much of the car’s bodywork is bespoke and has been created to provide as much downforce and grip as possible. Powering through a number of Portuguese hills, it’s easy to understand why it is considered such a legend in the small country’s racing scene.
