Frugal Hyundai Ioniq PHEV Arrives In The UK From £24,995

The plug-in hybrid version of the Hyundai Ioniq will go on sale in the UK later this month with a starting price of £24,995, including the £2,500 grant from the local government.

The third and final variant of the Hyundai Ioniq range will offer up to 39 miles of pure electric range and a total driving range of 680 miles.

The hybrid powertrain combines a 105PS 1.6-litre petrol engine with a 61PS electric motor which are paired via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox instead of a CVT we usually find in similarly-minded models (yes Prius, I’m referring to you). The combined output is rated at 139hp (141PS).

The Hyundai Ioniq PHEV also emits 26gr/km of CO2 while fuel economy is rated at a combined 1.1lt/100km (256.8 mpg UK) on the NEDC cycle. 0-62mph (100km/h) comes in 10.6 seconds, with the top speed set at 110mph (178km/h).

Hyundai UK will offer the Ioniq PHEV in Premium and Premium SE specification, with the former offering a high level of standard kit, including 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, Smart Cruise Control, an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation, heated front seats and steering wheel, LED headlights and rear combination lamps, wireless smartphone charging, and a Rear Parking Assist System with Rear View Camera.

The list of standard driver assistance systems is also impressive and includes Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist System and individual Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Customers can also opt for a 7kW wall box that can be installed at their homes for £300, including the installation.

“With up to 39 miles of electric-only power there is more than sufficient range for zero-emission daily commutes, as well as the reassurance of longer range from the hybrid powertrain when needed,” said Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO Hyundai Motor UK. “We anticipate keen interest from private buyers and fleet users alike, given the Plug-in Hybrid’s great value pricing and low tax rates.”
