Would You Still Buy A McLaren MP4-12C Now That The 720S Is Out?

McLaren MP4-12C - now that's a name we haven’t heard in a while. Produced from 2011 as the brand's first street-legal model since the iconic F1, the MP4-12C represented a huge leap into the future for the team based in Woking.

Penned by Frank Stephenson, who is also known for designing not only the new MINI, but also the Ferrari F430, the supercar uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which was eventually adopted by the entire family, including the P1 hybrid hypercar, with a few mods.

The MP4-12C represented McLaren's answer to the Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari 458 Italia, and it was eventually joined by a convertible version.

Its glory days are long gone, after it eventually evolved into the 650S, which was replaced by the 720S earlier this year, but the MP4-12C can still throw a punch, which is why used examples continue to fetch six-digit sums on the used car market.

Take this blue-finished example pictured here that's expected to change hands for £90,000-£110,000 ($117,940-$144,145) at the SilverstoneAuctions Classic Sale, on July 29-30. It had just one owner from new, who took good care of it and put 22,880 miles (36,822km) on the clock.

It appears to be in almost perfect condition, despite being made in 2012, but would you blow a small fortune on it, or would you rather go for something made in Italy or, why not, Germany, such as the Audi R8?
