Alpina’s 205mph B7 Bi-Turbo Wants The Title Of The Fastest 4-Door In The World

Alpina has revised the top speed of the new BMW 7-Series-based B7 Bi-Turbo, just in time for the model’s UK launch.

The final specification of the new super-saloon (and the closest we’ll ever get to a full-blown BMW M7) pushes the top speed to a very impressive 205mph (330km/h), up from the predicted 193mph (310km/h) figure that was announced at the model’s debut at the last Geneva Motor Show.

Power comes from a heavily reworked version of BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 which now makes 600hp (608PS) and 590lb-ft (800Nm), courtesy of the specially developed twin-scroll turbos which deliver up to 1.2 bar of boost pressure with minimal inertia.

Alpina has also added a new indirect intercooler system (air/water/air), featuring a main intercooler feeding two large and close-coupled intercoolers and additional radiators, to make sure that the twin-turbo V8 will be thermodynamically stable at all times.

The ZF eight-speed automatic transmission has also been upgraded with additional cooling and a range of modifications that include strengthened gear clusters and a larger torque converter.

B7 Bi-Turbos that are destined for the UK market will be rear-wheel drive, long-wheelbase models equipped with air suspension, Active Roll Stabilisation and Alpina’s active rear steering. The variable ratio electric steering also gets a bespoke calibration while the front wheels benefit from an increased camber for a more direct turn-in. 0-60mph will come in 4 seconds flat.

“Where road conditions allow, owners of the new B7 Bi-Turbo can cruise long distances at that legendary speed with friends and family in considerable comfort,” says Alpina GB brand manager Gary Lott. “Remarkably, Alpina has achieved this alongside superb ride quality and refinement at lower speeds, and all for just £115,000.”
