Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler To Get Hybrid Option

A hybrid version of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler is apparently in the works.

The new off-roader has been spied testing on numerous occasions in the past year and Autocar reports that the firm is working on a fuel-efficient variant aided by electricity.

It is believed that the Jeep Wrangler hybrid will be the very first vehicle from the Jeep brand to be fitted with a hybrid powertrain, most likely consisting of a small electric motor and battery pack mated alongside a four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.

The automaker has been evaluating hybrid vehicles for a number of years now and actually created a plug-in hybrid study prototype in 2008.

At this stage, it isn’t known which markets will have the option of the hybrid. However, we do know that three engines will make up the initial family of models. They will include a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol, a 3.6-liter petrol V6 and a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel.

A debut later this year for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is predicted.
