Mercedes Sponsoring Mille Miglia Classic Event For 2018

Mercedes will continue its commitment as a sponsor to one of the biggest classic car events on the automotive calendar, the 2018 Mille Miglia.

Mercedes-Benz Classic will also participate with models from its own collection, celebrating the connection of the brand with the historic road race. The modern Mille Miglia event is being run on a route that closely follows the original, with Mercedes participating since 1930 with Rudolf Caraciolla finishing 6th behind the wheel of an SSK.

One year later, Caraciolla won the Mille Miglia in a Mercedes SSKL and became the first non-Italian driver to do so.

In 1952, Mille Miglia was the event where the iconic W194 300SL race car debuted while in 1955 Sir Stirling Moss drove his 300SLR to victory, ahead of his teammate Juan Manuel Fangio, posting a still unbeaten record time of 10 hours, 7 minutes and 48 seconds. The same event saw the 300SL ‘Gullwing’ and the 180D winning their class as well.

The modern version of the Mille Miglia allows entry to vehicles that took part in the original road race during the period from 1927 to 1957, with the starting and finishing line being in Brescia, Italy.
