Holden has released the first pictures of their new Commodore Supercar concept.
Designed to preview the model that will compete in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship in 2018, the concept is based on the next-generation Commodore, which itself is a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia.
The production model is currently being developed by Holden and its official factory racing team Triple Eight Race Engineering. The car will be homologated with the current model's V8 engine but that will only last for the 2018 season.
In 2019, Holden will switch over to a new twin-turbo V6 engine which is currently under development at the General Motors Performance and Racing Center in Michigan. The engine will meet Supercars’ Gen 2 regulations and Triple Eight Race Engineering will seek approval to run a V6-powered Commodore as a wild card entry at selected rounds next season.
