60 years is a long time, but that's how long it's been since Fiat launched the original Cinquecento. So you can understand that the Italian automaker would want to celebrate the occasion.
That kind of celebration in the automotive industry typically takes the form of a special edition. But in this case there's not just one, but two anniversary editions of the Fiat 500.
The first we saw a few months ago in Geneva in the form of the Sessantesimo edition. Now Fiat's released another. It's called the Anniversario edition, and it takes the whole retro thing even further – crucially positioned at a more accessible price point than the costly Sessantesimo.
It's distinguished by such special touches as chrome trim on the hood and mirror caps, special 16-inch wheels, old-style Fiat badges, and special logos on the bodywork and the striped fabric interior. It all harkens back to the Dolce Vita spirit of the Fifties and Sixties when the Cinquecento was motorizing post-war Italy following the vehicle's launch on July 4, 1957.
Buyers will be able to choose from a range of engines with outputs from 69 to 105hp, and between hatchback or convertible bodystyles. There's even a pair of new colors on offer, called Sicilia Orange and Riviera Green to make it all the more special.
The special treatment is applied to the European model, which is slightly different from the one made in Mexico for the North American market. So we shouldn't expect to find this one in Fiat Studios back Stateside. Pricing in its home market of Italy starts at just 13,600 euros.
