Jaguar’s All-Electric I-Pace Enters Final Development Phase

Jaguar has been working for some time now on their first all-electric model, the I-Pace SUV, with the company taking it now to its Nurburgring test facility.

The highly anticipated Tesla Model X rival will retain the concept’s looks, with Jaguar only making small adjustments for the production version. Set to make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the upcoming I-Pace will also get a set of door handles that sit flush with the bodywork when not in use, a feature also seen on the Range Rover Velar.

Most of the details of the electric powertrain are also already known, with the I-Pace using an electric motor on each axle, making it effectively an all-wheel drive vehicle as well as providing a total of 400PS (395hp) and 700Nm (516lb-ft) of torque.

A 90kWh battery pack will provide the juice, with Jaguar targeting an official NEDC-rated driving range of more than 310 miles (500km) on a full charge. In the most realistic EPA tests, the British zero-emissions SUV will be capable of 220 miles (354 km). Compatibility with a 50kW DC fast-charger means that the new I-Pace will need 90 minutes to reach an 80 percent charge of its battery. Jaguar expects a 0-62mph (100km/h) in around four seconds.

The cabin will allegedly offer seating for five, with impressive room for occupants and their luggage thanks to the clever packaging, while the dashboard will incorporate the latest screen technologies and connectivity features.

Prices are estimated to start from $70,000, with Jaguar initiating production at the Magna Steyr’s factory in Austria early next year.
