Peugeot Reveals Its New Chinese-Based 'Pick Up'

After the demise of the Hoggar, the 208-based pickup truck, some three years ago, Peugeot were left without a workhorse. Until now that is, because they have just unveiled the new 'Pick Up'.

Aimed exclusively at the African market, where it builds on the success of the 403, 404, and 504, it's based on the Chinese Zhengzhou Nissan Auto Rich New, to which it adds different lighting units and grille, and a few other tweaks.

Peugeot says that their 'new' pickup truck has a length of 5.08m (197.2in), a ground clearance between 210mm (8.3in) and 215mm (8.5in), depending on the model, a 1.4m (55.1in) and 1.39m (54.7in) wide bed, with anchoring hooks, and a maximum payload of 815kg (1,797lbs).

Powering it is a 2.5-liter turbodiesel engine that makes 115hp and 280Nm (207lb-ft) of torque, combined with a 5-speed stick shift. Customers can choose between the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, with the latter bringing 4 High and 4 Low modes.

Peugeot have yet to release images with the interior of the Pick Up, but they state that this is "the most spacious and accommodating" in its class. Standard features include manual air conditioning, electric windows, radio with CD player and USB port, electrically adjustable side mirrors, two frontal airbags, ABS with brakeforce distribution, and rear parking sensors.

The new Peugeot Pick Up will go on sale across the African continent in September, in double cab flavor.
