Elon Musk believes that in twenty years time, owning a car that isn't autonomous will be like having a horse, Inverse reports.
The outspoken Tesla chief executive made the bold statement while speaking to almost thirty governors at an event in Rhode Island while making predictions about the future of the car industry.
“...If you were to say, go out twenty years, overwhelmingly, things are electric or autonomous, overwhelmingly.
“Fully autonomous. There will not be a steering wheel. Twenty years? It will be like having a horse. People have horses, which is cool. There will be people who have non-autonomous cars, like people have horses. It would just be unusual to use that as a mode of transport,” Musk said.
Bold statements like this about EVs and autonomous technologies are common for Musk and based on what we are seeing happen in the industry, there's a good chance these predictions will prove accurate.
With that being said, we're confident that many cars will still be built for enthusiasts in twenty years with steering wheels and the ability for a human driver to control all of the vehicle's key functions.
