Ferrari Is Indeed Considering Four-Seat Utility Vehicle, Says Inside Source

Ferrari is looking into adding a four-seater “utility vehicle” that’s roomier than the GTC4Lusso as part of its plan to double profit by 2022.

Bloomberg says that the report is confirmed by people familiar with the matter. The final five-year plan under CEO Sergio Marchionne, who will retire in 2021, will target greater annual deliveries that stretch beyond the self-imposed limit of 10,000 cars per year, according to the same sources.

The new plan will be officially revealed in early 2018 and includes Ferrari building hybrid models in order to improve fuel efficiency as the increased volume could expose them to stricter environmental regulations.

The four-seat family model is internally dubbed as the Ferrari “Utility Vehicle”, following Marchionne’s previous objections on a Ferrari SUV. Instead the company will try to market it as a new industry segment and not as another high-end SUV and with designers studying ways to ensure that it will look as good as a Ferrari should look.

The big Ferrari is targeted at Asian customers, particularly those in China, and could add as many as 2,000 vehicles to the company’s annual deliveries, according to the sources. If the car, which is not clear if it’ll have two or four doors, gets the green light, it could hit the market as early as 2021.
