These days, automakers are spending more and more time and energy perfecting not only the power and delivery of their engines, but their sound as well. The result, for automotive enthusiasts especially, can yield orchestral masterpieces equal to anything any musician could ever produce.
Just check out this latest promotional campaign from Audi. In celebration of its ongoing partnership with the Emmy Awards, the German automaker assembled an orchestra combining some of its finest performance machines with classical instruments to recreate the theme songs from three award-winning television shows.
Together with pianos, violins, harps, and horns, the R8 V10 Plus, TT RS, and SQ5 in the videos below are recorded playing “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” (from Cheers), “Love Is All Around” (From The Mary Tyler Moore Show), and the Star Trek theme. And, to our ears at least, they sound even better than the originals.
What's even more impressive is that, while the R8's ten-cylinder engine revs freely, the other two are turbocharged – and that manner of forced induction can often muffle an exhaust note. The TT RS packs a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five, with the SQ5 powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. We suppose the variety only adds to the depth of the symphony, but we'll let you be the judge of that after watching the three clips below.
