Toyota Adds Over 600,000 Vehicles To Takata Airbag Recall In The U.S.

Toyota North America is the first automaker to announce the exact models of the expanded Takata airbag recall.

The latest list includes an estimated 601,300 units of various 2009-2013 Lexus, Scion, and Toyota cars, whose defective inflators may rupture when the airbag deploys, thus increasing the risk of injury and even death.

New additions are the 2009, 2010, and 2013 Scion xB, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Lexus IS 250/350, and IS-F, 2009 and 2010 Toyota Yaris, and Lexus ES350, 2010 and 2013 Lexus IS 350C/350C, GX460, and Toyota Sienna, and 2010 and 2013 Toyota 4Runner.

Owners of these vehicles will be notified by March via first class mail, and dealers will replace either the front passenger airbag inflator or the entire assembly, depending on each case, free of charge.

Other automakers, such as Audi, BMW, Daimler Vans, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Tesla still have to announce the exact models added to the ever-growing Takata recall recently, but they're expected to do so by the end of January.
