Tesla Discontinuing Model S 75 To Avoid Cannibalization Of The Model 3

Shortly after presenting the new Model 3 this summer, Elon Musk warned that the company will revise its Model S range.

Electrek has come to understand that the Model S 75 is going to be discontinued starting on  September 24, so those still interested in the rear-wheel drive version of the sedan have only a few days to make a deposit.

The decision is apparently tied to the Model 3, as Tesla is looking to differentiate the zero-emission hatch to the base version of the Model S. The latter has a starting price of $69,500, in the US, while the former can be had from $35,000. As a result, the Model 3 will become the company's only product available with a single electric motor.

Unless Tesla Motors decides to update the price list of their products subsequent to this move, the cheapest model S will set its future buyers back for at least $74,500. This grade comes with a driving range of up to 259 miles (417km) on a single charge, thanks to a 75kWh battery.
