Love Apple CarPlay but hate plugging in your iPhone every time you get behind the wheel? Well, audio company Alpine has the answer with the launch of the market’s first wireless infotainment system.
With the exclusion of wireless Apple CarPlay in 2017 BMW models, Alpine is the first to bring the feature to the market in an aftermarket solution that will suit almost any car out there.
The unit, dubbed the iLX-107, connects to the iPhone or iPad of the vehicle occupant through both WiFi and Bluetooth and will automatically connect to a paired device within WiFi range. Say goodbye to messing around looking for that lightning cable.
Following BMW’s decision to adopt wireless CarPlay support, it is inevitable that a number of other carmakers will join suit in implementing the feature on new models but in the meantime, Alpine’s solution is the only aftermarket option. Unfortunately, it is rather expensive, priced at $900.
