For a company that has started production of its most affordable model, Tesla has been awfully secretive about the Model 3 and buyers are starting to get nervous.
The last known figure we got was 373,000 deposit-backed orders back in April 2016, and since then the orders kept piling, putting even more pressure on Tesla.
Elon Musk’s announcement that production of the Model 3 has finally kicked off, releasing along the way just a pair of photos on Twitter, got future owners excited, and at the same time more nervous as Tesla has still to inform them where they fall in the wait list or when their car will be delivered.
Bloomberg spoke with some of these people who are eagerly waiting from Tesla to clarify things like pricing, options and of course a delivery date; oeople like Patrick Herrity who made his Model 3 reservation online. Herrity wants a fully-loaded Model 3 with all-wheel drive and a sunroof, options that will not be available in the first batch of cars to roll off the assembly line.
Other would-be Model 3 buyers are considering canceling their reservation because they don’t want to wait that long, like Hilary Bumgarner, who is waiting to see the final pricing of the Model 3 with her desired options and when Tesla plans to deliver it to make up her mind.
Most of them are hoping to get some answers from Tesla this Friday, July 28, when the company will deliver the first 30 Model 3s to their owners at a special handover party.
