A band of daring thieves has pulled off a theft worthy of something out of The Fast and The Furious.
According to the Associated Press, five Romanians have been arrested by Dutch police following the theft of approximately €500,000 ($591,210) worth of iPhones from a moving truck.
According to police spokesman Ed Kraszewski, the thieves were driving a modified van and the suspects exited the vehicle through a hole in the roof. The van got extremely close to the truck, while the criminals climbed onto the hood and opened the truck's rear doors. The thieves then passed the iPhones back to the van.
The bizarre nature of the crime was so surprising that it even caught police off guard. As Kraszewski explained, they have been investigating thefts from trucks for awhile but they were skeptical that such daring heists were actually occurring.
Despite this, Gizmodo found footage from a similar heist which was caught by Romania's department for organized crime and terrorism. The two crimes are remarkably similar but in this instance, the thieves aborted their plan.
The thieves in the iPhone case were arrested over the weekend and are scheduled to face a judge tomorrow.
