2017 Honda Clarity Electric Launched In The US, Costs $269 Per Month

The 2017 Honda Clarity Electric has begun arriving at dealerships in California and Oregon.

Looking virtually identical to the Clarity Fuel Cell, the Clarity Electric will be available to lease for $269 per month with a $1,730 down payment. The 36 month lease factors in the federal tax credit for eco-friendly vehicles and provides buyers with 24/7 roadside assistance as well as a mileage allotment of 20,000 miles (32,186 km) per year.

Motivation is provided by a 25.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack which feeds an electric motor that develops 161 hp (120 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to travel approximately 89 miles (143 km) on a single charge and have an EPA fuel economy rating of 126 MPGe city /103 MPGe highway / 114 MPGe combined.

Since the car's range is extremely limited, drivers will be happy to know the battery can be fully recharged in around three hours using a 240 volt fast charger. The same system can also deliver an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes.

While the Clarity Electric isn't without its compromises, the model comes nicely equipped with perforated leather seats, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and an 8-inch Display Audio system with GPS navigation. Drivers will also find adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and a push-button ignition.
