The Polaris Slingshot is one of the more unique vehicles on the market and it apparently inspired this bizarre abomination.
Recently posted on Reddit, this distinctive car is based on the second-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible and has a relatively familiar appearance until you step around back. As the grainy photo shows, the rear of the car has been completely gutted and replaced with unique bodywork.
Of course, that isn't the biggest change as the Eclipse features a unique rear suspension and two center-mounted wheels. The overall look echoes the Slingshot but it's worth noting that particular model is rear-wheel drive whereas the Eclipse was offered with front- or all-wheel drive.
There's no word on what caused someone to do this to an Eclipse but as the saying goes "a fool and his money are soon parted." That's being a little cruel as the vehicle is certainly unique but we wouldn't be surprised if officials aren't particularly keen on the owner's modifications.
On the upside, the Eclipse is more spacious than the Slingshot and the model is likely powered by either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 141 hp (105 kW) or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder developing 210 hp (160 kW).

I guess they couldn't afford a Slingshot?
