Porsche has provided a glimpse into the production process of the new Panamera Sport Turismo, whose assembly began in Leipzig earlier this week, with the first customer vehicles having already left the facility and waiting to be shipped to their owners.
"This launch confirms Leipzig's leading role in the production of highly complex model and technology variants. As the winner of the J.D. Power Award, the plant is known for its outstanding production quality worldwide, and its optimal mix of workshop manufacturing and series production", commented Gerd Rupp, Chair of the Executive Board at Porsche Leipzig.
The most practical version of the new generation Porsche Panamera, which was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March, is being put together in the German facility that received a €500 million ($582 million) investment. The financial injection included a brand new quality center, in addition to the body shop.
Besides the 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, the automaker is also producing the Macan and Cayenne at their Leipzig factory. According to the infographic below, this is where 158,432 units were produced in 2016, on the 400-hectare plant that's home to 4,055 employees. 948 robots work in the body shop, paint shop, and assembly, and €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion) have been invested into the plant in total since production commenced in August, 2002.
